Big-Mo News
from Prewett Creek Inn & Fly Shop - Cascade, Montana

Issue 02 - Pre-season 2006

Phil Camera pictureOfficial Newsletter of Montana’s Prewett Creek Inn and Fly Shop - The Missouri River’s Fly Fishing Center

Greetings from our Colorado winter nest! The BIG news this month is our newly updated web site with excellent real-time Big Mo River information and our three new self-guided fishing and lodging packages. The newest things to look for are:

The View Back & Forth

Last years high water conditions on Big Mo made the '05 season somewhat challenging. Right now it looks like there is a healthy snow pack in the mountains and most of the lakes are back to normal levels meaning that we should have fairly normal flows this year. The predicted spring flush out looks to ensure excellent 2006 hatches and dry fly fishing all season long. We expect between 4000 CFS to 4800 CFS flow regimen for most of the 2006 fishing season. That translates into excellent prospects for consistent, predictable dry fly fishing no matter when you decide to return!

The ‘05 fishing season was truly brightened by visits by a number of non-angling guests that we would like to say thank you and please return! 2005, having been the bicentennial of Lewis and Clark’s journey though the canyon on their way to the Pacific Ocean, were visited by many sightseers, historians and river paddlers traveling the route of that historic first expedition. They came by kayak, canoe, and bicycle and by foot. For some of them, we were only able to offer a room for the night or just a cool drink and snacks from our new Fly Shop and store. This experience brought an awareness to us that beautiful Hardy Canyon and the Prewett Creek Inn has so much more to offer than a great place for fly fisherman to stage their fishing trips from. In fact, Joan and I are becoming avid, albeit novice birders. If any of you birders out there can help us become better birders and you wish to have a terrific place to stay while seeking out the many species of birds that migrate through and nest in our beautiful canyon, we would certainly love to meet you! We plan to include an informative new section of our web site dedicated to birding so stay tuned!

The new bridge in Craig is about complete and is now accepting two-way traffic. Joan and I expect to have the lodge and store open for daily business by April 1st, so stop in and say hi if you're passing through or anxious to start your fishing season! We're presently accepting reservations for this seasons lodging and are looking forward to seeing you all soon. Our thoughts and prayers go out to our hurricane affected friends - we hope that all is well and life is returning to normal.

Sincerely,

The good folks at Prewett Creek Inn and Fly Shop!

There's plenty of spots to fish for wading anglers on the Might Mo - the Missouri River.

There's lots of dry fly sipping browns like this (and larger) on Big Mo!
